We are Fixing for a Future!

We're all about Repair Cafés, Tool Libraries & Repair Skills Workshops

Come and join us!

It may be Climate Week but every day should be a Climate Day!

Did you know...?

  • More than 300,000 tonnes of used clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year

  • The average person buys 60 percent more items of clothing every year and keeps them for about half as long as 15 years ago

  • 45 million tonnes of computers, televisions, mobile phones and other electronic goods are thrown away every year

  • The average power drill is used for only 13 minutes in its lifetime

With so much waste contributing to pollution, we need to re-frame the way we look at the products we throw out and, if they can be repaired, we need to fix them!

We can ensure we waste less by sharing the things that already exist, meaning fewer resources are needed and the amount of waste going to landfill is reduced.

Do you want to take action locally to play your part in solving this massive problem?

It doesn't even have to be a chore. You'll learn new skills, meet new, like-minded people and save a load of money!

Fixing for a Future is an East Linton-based, East Lothian-wide project striving to:

  • Raise awareness of the climate crisis

  • Promote the circular economy

  • Enable an increase in skills to repair belongings

  • Encourage an ethos of reducing consumption, waste to landfill and CO2 emissions

Since April 2020, Fixing for a Future has:

  • Recruited 22 volunteers, who have collectively volunteered 860 hours

  • Employed 6 sessional repair skills tutors

  • Collaborated with 11 other organisations and schools (East Lothian Works; The Mart; Chippendale International School of Furniture; The Pennypit Centre; Beyond Boundaries East Lothian; Connected Communities Musselburgh; Caledonian Horticulture; East Linton Primary School; Belhaven Primary School; DadsWork; Action for Children)

  • Delivered 32 events (Skills Workshops, Repair Cafés, community outreach projects)

  • Engaged over 450 people from across East Lothian in Tool Library and Repair Café activities and Repair Skills Workshops

  • Since East Linton Tool Library opened its doors in May 2021, we have accumulated 297 tools in our inventory (donations and new hand and power tools) and loaned 781 times to 110 members
